Care instructions for
Orchid
Orchids are plants that belong to the family Orchidaceae, a diverse and widespread group of flowering plants with blooms that are often colourful and fragrant. Orchids are cosmopolitan plants, living in diverse habitats on every continent except Antarctica.
Light
• Place orchids in a location with bright, indirect light, such as an east or west-facing windowsill.
• Direct sunlight can burn the leaves, so it's important to filter the light.
Water
• Watering is one of the most critical aspects; only water when the potting mix is almost dry.
• Water thoroughly until it drains from the bottom of the pot, then let the pot drain completely.
• Avoid letting the pot sit in water, as this can cause root rot.
• To check if it needs water, observe the roots: they will turn a silvery color when dry.
Soil & Fertilizer
• Use a well-draining potting mix specifically for orchids, often containing bark.
• Feed your orchid with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer formulated for orchids during the growing season, following the label instructions.
Humidity & Temperature
• To increase humidity, place the pot on a tray filled with pebbles and water, ensuring the pot sits on top of the stones, not in the water.
• Ideal temperatures are between 60−85∘F (15−30∘C)Avoid placing them near drafts, heating vents, or air conditioning.
Other Care Tips
• Repot your orchid only when it outgrows its current pot.
• Prune dried or spent flower stalks after the flowering period is over.
