Care instructions for

Fern

A fern is a type of herbaceous vascular plant that reproduces via spores, not seeds or flowers. Ferns have true roots, stems, and complex leaves, and they require regular moisture and high humidity to thrive.

Light

• Provide bright, indirect light.
• Keep ferns out of direct sunlight to prevent their leaves from scorching.

Water

• Keep the soil consistently moist, but never waterlogged. Let the top inch of soil dry slightly before watering again.
• Water less frequently in the winter (every 7-10 days) than in the summer (every 4-5 days).

Soil & Fertilizer

• Use a rich, well-draining potting mix with plenty of organic matter.
• Choose plastic or glazed pots, as they hold moisture better than terracotta, which can dry out too quickly.
• Fertilize: Feed with a balanced, liquid fertilizer diluted to half-strength during the growing season, or a general-purpose fertilizer, and only when new growth appears.

Humidity & Temperature

• Increase humidity by misting the leaves regularly, using a humidifier, or placing the pot on a tray filled with pebbles and water.
• Place the plant in the bathroom, a naturally humid room.
• Avoid placing ferns near cold drafts, fireplaces, or heating/cooling vents.

Other Care Tips

• Repot: Repot every 1 to 2 years to refresh the soil and give the roots more room.
• Clean: Dust the fronds regularly by wiping them with a damp cloth or gently running them under a tap.
• Prune: Trim any dead, yellowing, or brown fronds to maintain appearance and encourage new growth.
